A neurologist is a specialist who can treat conditions that affect your nervous system. Your nervous system includes brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. Common conditions managed by a neurologist include stroke, peripheral nerves and muscle disorders (causing pain, numbness and weakness), seizures, multiple sclerosis, memory disorders, headaches, movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease, and sleep disorders. You may need a neurological exam if you have symptoms of a nervous system disorder. Early diagnosis can help you get the right treatment and may decrease long-term complications.

Waqar Waheed, MD

Waqar Waheed is a graduate of King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his Neurology residency at University of Vermont Medical Center. He subsequently did fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular disorders at University of Vermont Medical Center and Washington University, St. Louis, MO respectively. He is board certified in American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine. He is currently working as a Clinical Professor of Neurology and Vice Chair, Department of Neurosciences, University of Vermont Medical Center and Larner College of medicine.
